International Conference of Mangroves and Its Related Ecosystems 2019
Purwokerto, Central Java
The detailed description of the event
Coastal areas in tropical countries have a high natural resource potential reflected by its biodiversity and endemicity. Mangrove as one of the potential coastal ecosystems provides many valuable processes that ensure availability of goods, and services of provisioning, regulating, supporting, cultural. More than a third of the mangrove area has been lost due to the conversion and over-exploitation in the past three decades. The threats to this precious resource, especially those that have not been explored, will impact ecosystem functions and services.
The global climate change accelerated by human intervention in the natural environment such as over-exploitation of biological resources, an introduction of foreign species, and habitat conversion causes coastal biological resources to be at risk of extinction. With their expertise, scientists can develop research to explore available biological resources, including biotechnology for multiple purposes, i.e., to preserve biodiversity while utilizing it for human welfare.
Therefore, an international joint forum is needed in which research and up-to-date information on mangrove and its related ecosystems, as well as their management, can be shared and reviewed.
Establishing and Managing Mangrove Databases for Maintaining Its Ecosystem Services and Resources
Objectives of the event
The most efficient way to gather ideas and action plans is to organize a scientific meeting aimed at (a) building a network of biodiversity researchers around the world, (b) increasing the contribution of researchers in safeguarding environmental and biodiversity quality, and (c) exploring coastal biological resources through the use of biotechnology to support biodiversity.
The symposia available for the conference are as follows:
- Mangrove Ecosystem Health.
The sustainability of the mangrove and its related ecosystem is highly dependent on its health which is maintained by the functioning of the ecosystem processes.
- Mangrove Ecosystem Management.
The mangrove existence covers vegetation and land, which is utilized, economically, as a hydrological unity and ecological functions. This various use requires policy to sustainably manage and maintain the good quality of the mangrove environment.
- Recent Approach to Mangrove Monitoring.
Resource exploration of mangrove and its related ecosystems should maintain and preserve their biodiversity; thus recent approaches on biotechnology and management are required.
- Mangrove Interrelated System.
With its immense biodiversity, coastal areas face rapid physical development. This leads to biodiversity change of the seagrass, coral, coastal, and estuary.
