Abstract

Genetic variation in various physiological characters and yield of several soybean genotypes was studied. Physiological characters studied were leaf relative water content, leaf temperature, transpiration rate, and diffusive resistance. In addition, seed weight per plant was also measured. The aim of the study was to study the genetic variation among soybean genotypes under drought condition imposed at R5 stage until harvesting time. The results revealed genetic variation among the genotypes studied. Some genotypes were able to maintain high relative water contents, while some others showed high transpiration rates and exhibited low diffusive resistances. No differences in leaf temperature were observed among the genotypes. Seed weight  varied from 0.58 to 2.38 g per plant
